Chapter 9

Chapter 9 to end page 188 these questions to be discussed as a group
Why is Doc arrested? How does this tie in with some of the themes in this book (ie. injustice)
Why did the Police who arrested Doc lie?
Why were the townsfolk so quick to condemn Doc as a spy?
What did you think of the newspaper heading ’No spy, but still a German’ ?

    I think that their relationship will be very tense and bad. I think this because Peekay’s mum is trying to full Peekay’s head with stuff about god and everything and Peekay wants to learn about boxing and all of that stuff. They won’t really mix with the son and mother relationship that they should have.

    Doc is arrested because he is German and it is possible that he could have been a spy. Although he didn’t do anything wrong they still arrest him just because he could have been a spy.
    I think the police who arrested Doc lied because they didn’t want to get found out.
    I think that the town’s folk were so quick to condemn Doc as a spy because Doc was German. Because of Doc being German they almost instantly turned against him. Being German meant it was possible that he was spying on the town’s folk.
    I think the newspaper said ‘no spy but still German’ because nobody liked him whether or not he was a spy because he was German and they disliked the Germans’.

    1. I think that the relationship between Peekay and his mum will have a few disagreements but that is only because he doesn’t want to believe in god and his mum wants to. Also Peekay’s mum doesn’t want him to be boxing.But in the end they will be happy and get on with their lives.

    1.I think that Doc is arrested because he is a German and because the law back then was that when a war was on if there was anyone that was from the country that they were attacking they had to go to a prison and stay there until the war was over. They did this because it was too easy for the other army to get any information on what was happing.

    2.I think that when doc was put in jail he got very upset because he was used to roaming around outside and going over the hills and then one day he finds himself stuck between four concrete walls he doesn’t like it that much but he is glad that he has Peekay to keep him company.

    I think that doc is arrested because he is a German and the Germans are on the opposing war side.
    I think that the police lied about kicking Peekay because they didn’t want to be seen as the bad people while they were arresting doc.
    I think the townsfolk were so quick to condemn Doc as a spy because he was German and even if doc didn’t do anything wrong he would of been imprisoned because he could of been a spy.
    I think that the paper stated “no spy but still a German” because they needed something to turn against Doc to have a reason to put him in jail.

    They lied because they knew if they told the truth that they would be fired,
    They were so quick to condemn doc as a spy because he was a german and they were presently at war with germany.
    I think that it is racist because he is not doing anything for him to get accused about.
