Chapter 10 end of page 219

What sort of things will Peekay see and experience when he visits Doc in the prison?
How do you think Peekay will react to the things that he will see on his visits to Barberton prison?
What sort of education will Peekay get between the religious teachings of his mother, his school, Doc and the men he interacts with at the prison?
What does this say about the nature of learning?

  1. He will see like boxing, fighting, and all the things that you won’t see out on the streets. It will properly be like a place for drunken people who steal like all of the prisons food and drinks.
He will properly react like he doesn’t care, because he kind of grew up in that type of environment. E.g. fighting, swearing and all of that stuff.
He will most likely learn a whole mixture of stuff, religious stuff, fighting and all of the stuff about music and plants.
It kind of means that Peekay is taking a lot in and he is a very smart kid.

  2. I think he will see things like men being treated in a way that a young boy shouldn’t see. I think that the people in the prison aren’t really the people should be around. Also the environment Peekay is in isn’t a great place.

I think that Peekay, being a very mature child will react quite responsibly to all of this. I reckon that he will say something to Doc and Doc will try to assure him that these things are normal even though they may not be.

I think that Peekay is all ready a really smart kid. I think the things Peekay will learn from all the people around him will be stuff like, further learning the piano and boxing. I think that what his mother believes in (her religion) is something that isn’t going to do a lot for Peekay because he is refusing to believe in those same things.

I think this is saying that all though he is bright kid him and his mother need to start talking and listening to each other in order to have a healthy relationship and for Peekay to learn more in life.

  3. The things that Peekay would see in the prison would be things that 6 year olds don't see and some of the things would make him to be a strong person.
When Peekay sees the things that he would see in Barberton Prison would make him a good person as he wouldn't want to go there and experience the things that he saw the people go through.
Peekay could teach people the things he learns in school and be a teacher or he could teach people to box and be a personal trainer and teach kids who are like him to stick up for themselves .With the religious teachings he wouldn't do anything with it as it doesn't interest him and if it doesn't interest him why would he do thing with it.
The nature of learning is doing things that you like because it interest you and if you do things that bore you then why would you pay attention.

  4. 2. In the book it doesn’t mention much about Peekay’s school only that he is two years above his age and that he was being bullied .Until he was forced to fight one of the his class they did it on the street and Peekay won. When he see doc in prison Peekay is excited and sad at the same time. He is sad for doc because doc is used to being outside and free, and now he is stuck in the prison. I don’t think that the people that Peekay interacts with are that bad anyway he’s got doc to protect him. Peekay still doesn’t want to believe in god and his mum isn’t pressuring him anymore.

  5. When Peekay visits the Barberton jail he sees and experiences a kind of cruelty that he has not seen yet. Peekay realises that the respect that the different cultures have for each other is totally different.
I think that Peekay will be quite shocked by the disrespect and respect that is given by the prison wards and prisoners.

I think that peekay will learn that he wants to become a boxer more than pleasing his mother or doing well at school. Peekay starts do disrespect the beliefs of his mother to follow his heart.
I think that you can’t get young children to follow your footsteps because they have their own dreams that they want to follow.

  6. 1 peekay will experience violence from the gaurds in the prison
2.I think peekay will react well to the things he sees due to him being bullied.
3.peekays eduaction will differ to the things he learns from different people.
This says that there is not only one right way of eduacation.
