- When Hoppie is explaining to Peekay about the American boxer Joe Louis being negro (African American), and that they were black like the Africans, but not "stupid and dirty and ignorant" (pg 88), what does that suggest about the mentality of white South Africans at the time?

Hoppie means the heart acts, but the head sends the command, so the head rules.

ReplyDelete3.Before Hoppie took Peekay to the shop I thought that he was a bit dodgy because of some of the things that he had taught Peekay to do like teaching him to hold onto the rails and leaning off the train which can be dangerous. Peekay also felt worried because on his first night of the train, Hoppie had tucked Peekay in and taken off his pants and Peekay was shocked when he had seen that Hoppie had taken his pants off.
4. The white Africans thought that the Africans were stupid and dirty and ignorant. If not it would of been Hoppie assuming that that's what the white Africans had thought about the African Americans because the whites were a high class.
I liked Hoppie before he went into the shop, because he was laid back and everything but as soon as he stepped foot into the shop he was an arrogant person just because the people who owned the shop had a different skin colour than him.
